I am going to be in Memphis, TN next weekend. Can anyone recommend a good, safe spot at which to park and watch trains on the IC mainline? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

There are few if any good safe spots in Memphis on the CN main. Best location in the city would probably be Hollywood Street along side Liberty Bowl stadium. Definitely be watchful and aware at this location but it is the only CN spot I park in Memphis. CN runs thru some very tough areas in the city. South of Memphis in Mississippi near the Tunica casinos is many safe areas and CN runs more south of Memphis in daylite than north of the yard.

Park on Hollywood St headed south at the curb at the crossing with the stadium giving shade in the afternoons. Heat index in Memphis is near 100 this time of year so it is very hot.
Intermodal train southbound in the mornings from 700 to about 830AM, and intermodal north about 515 to 630PM

Mentioning bad areas and Memphis brought to mind a not really related but humorous incident.

There used to be a police substation at Central Station, and as such there were always a large number of police cars in the parking lot. We were rolling into the station on 58 one night. I was at the door and a little old lady was looking out from behind me when we came abreast of the parking lot, which as always was full of police cruisers.

"This neighborhood isn't THAT bad, is it?" she asked.

Central Station is an OK area but only 2 Amtrak and possibly 1 local per 24 hours. All the freight is on the mainline thru midtown Memphis,
