NS should not give up there Steam excursion passages coaches . They should store them till they are ready !

Posted from Android Date: 07/22/17 01:28 Re: NS auctioning locos and some steam fleet passenger cars Author: WLE2679 NS has said that the excursion cars would be sold when we rode behind 611 in the spring. They were for the 21st Century Steam program that they are not running anymore....which doesn't mean they won't ferry or have excursions for others, just not on their own.

Date: 07/22/17 09:54 Re: NS auctioning locos and some steam fleet passenger cars Author: pdt These are all High Hoods that are stored. I'm guessing these were built late 60's. Not sure how many shortlines out there are hurting for power right now. Im guessing the dealers will buy them for 50-100K each....
The NS "switcher" and local power fleet will be "down" to, in round numbers... 300 GP-38 500 SD-40 100 GP-40 100 GP50/59/60 (incl the ECO rebuilds) 50 MP-15/SW1001 and other oddball 4 axle stuff Have seen some of the heavier locals/transfer runs that dont do much switching using whatever road power is lying around, now. The majority of what is listed for auction are GP38-2, and were built from 1973-1979. If NS has no plans to use them, selling them is best for NS and best for the cars themselves.
NS bought these cars and them put a lot of money into them just 4 to 5 years ago. Date: 07/26/17 07:41 Re: NS auctioning locos and some steam fleet passenger cars Author: DocJohn If one took two of the high-nose GP=38=2s and the passenger cars, one would have a train similar to what CNJ used on the Raritan Vslley line in the 1970s when former streamline passenger cars were used with GP-7s on each end. This train was one of the two that was used when service was extended to Phillipsburg around 1974 or so.
