NS Train 763
Author: ns2557

On this past Wednesday I spent some time trackside at Hbg Pa. up at MP 108, which is just under I81 on N.6th St. The Rescue Fire Station parking lot basically. While here NS 9240/7500 went west off the Fuel Pad with an mt 763 Coal Train. 100 cars mostly PGNX Aluminum cars. A few other strays but mainly the PGNX. In looking at NS Symbols, this appears to be an empty from Hyco NC to Williamson WVa. If indeed this is true, man are they wayyyyy out of route. What could be the reason for such a detour? And where does this one load at? TIA. Ben

Most of the trains for SE utilities have shifted from VA & southern WV mines to southern Illinois and Monogahela based mines, while maintaining 700 series ID #'s.

That particular trainset came out of storage east of Raleigh on the CLNA. ex-Progress Energy (now Duke Energy) quick dumps. Those cars are used exclusively at Hyco and Mayo Plants (exx-CP&L, ex-Progress Energy, now Duke Energy plants, north of Roxboro NC.
