Date: 08/18/17 06:36 Re: Frankfort, IN Questions Author: LX15840 When I was a student at Purdue in the early 60's, I used to see a steady stream of Nickel Plate freights through Lafayette. I knew the west bound trains were headed for Peoria IL, and the eastbound trains were headed to Frankfort, but from there I was not sure how they were routed. What were the possible routings east of Frankfort?

I was told either yard transfers or locals shuttle outbound traffic to Lafayette South Yard. Andrew Date: 08/18/17 08:01 Re: Frankfort, IN Questions Author: NYSWSD70M florida581 Wrote:

Wish I could have seen it in NKP days. Date: 08/19/17 05:11 Re: Frankfort, IN Questions Author: chico From Frankfort East to Sandusky via Muncie, Lima, Fostoria. Via Lake Erie & Western District.
The photo was one I took last year passing through Lima. It is looking East as the ex NKP crossed the ex DT&I at a junction called Morris. Automated in the 50s. In 1953 there were about 10 trains each way on the NKP here. Today much of the line is ripped up, tracks here don't continue east to much further (nor west). Chico Edited 1 time(s). If things are working normally (not often nowadays, sadly) it arrives mid-day from Indianapolis and departs in the early-mid afternoon.
