Eastern Railroad Discussion > Port Saint John, Pan Am & CM&QDate: 09/17/17 13:46 Port Saint John, Pan Am & CM&Q Author: Northern How will all of the activity at Port Saint John in New Brunswick affect New England and Eastern Canadian Railroads? It looks like DP World, who operates the terminal, has CMA CGM calling on the port. It also has worked an arrangement with Pan Am to provide container service to its yard in Ayer, MA outside of Boston. Will this be enough to get Pan Am to upgrade much of the old Maine Central to support containerized freight? Will any containers also flow on to the CM&Q also for service to Montreal?

During the CPR days there was substantial container business to and from Saint John. One has to be very optimistic to think that much container business will return to Saint John.

So I don't think we'll see large #s of CMA CGM transported containers arriving Saint John, in general. Hope I'm wrong.
