Eastern Railroad Discussion > Kanawha River Rail (formerly NS coal, etc lines)Date: 09/24/17 11:07 Kanawha River Rail (formerly NS coal, etc lines) Author: Lackawanna484 Back when NS was under siege from Canadian Pacific, NS announced plans to create a cluster of coal branches in West Virginia and SW Virginia, and spin them off to WATCO. That was accomplished in mid-2016.
How is that project coming along? I saw a mention of chasing a KRRR train a few weeks ago, but no details on operations, call points, etc. Thanks Date: 09/25/17 11:23 Re: Kanawha River Rail (formerly NS coal, etc lines) Author: PowellWye KNWA operates a pair of freights from Dickinson, WV to Columbus, OH (NS Watkins Yard) with KN 381 being northbound and KN 380 southbound. From Dickinson the next and only other crew change is at Hobson Yard west of Middleport, OH. Aside from the freights, KNWA loads a fairly healthy amount of coal to take both south and north from Dickinson to hand back off to the NS. Can't speak for the amount going south but they have been bringing a train or two north to Columbus per week the last few months.
