CSX Single Stacks on Midwestern Lanes

Why does CSX run single stacks from Jacksonville to Atlanta or Birmingham? These routes have double stack clearances all the way to Chicago.

All intermodal trains out of Jacksonville are double stacked with the exception of New Jersey trains Q031/Q032 and Q140/Q141.

Two of the single stacks I've seen used the Jesup Sub. Why would east coast trains go through Waycross?

I've seen nothing use the Nahunta Sub north of Folkston. I missed the morning Amtraks and will probably miss the evening ones.

Are east coast freights using the Jesup Sub for some cost reason? I realize there was never much beyond coal and intermodal between Jesup and Folkston.

They have to maintain Class 4 standards for Amtrak. Would it be just for "wear and tear" cost avoidance?

Savannah to Jacksonville via Nahunta , and Waycross to Folkston are maintained to Class 5 standards because the intermodals are running 70 mph per the talking defect detectors.
