Long Island RR

Is the Long Island RR totally passenger traffic? Who handles freight, NS, CSX or the spinoff of Conrail?

Happy Holidays to all.

New York & Atlantic Railway handles the freight traffic on Long Island out of its Fresh Pond (Queens) freight yard since 1997. Lots more information on Google.

Most of it takes the Main Line towards Riverhead.
The Babylon/Montauk line along the South Shore is totally passenger only.
The "Lower" Montauk Branch, Long Island to Jamaica was leased to the NY&A. LIRR cannot use it without a NY&A pilot. It is freight only. Its signal system has been shut down. Most of the 2nd main track is a linear freight car yard.
