Two different Amazon Prime trailers on CSX
Author: RFandPFan

Today's CSX Q032 had two differently painted Amazon Prime trailers at Nahunta, GA. Nowadays it's rare to see new business om CSX.

Wow that is quite a lot of them. These are not new trailers being shipped, but in service trailers carrying product? I'm surprised Amazon (which I happen to detest) would mess with railroads... I figured even their intermodal service might be too slow for there methods.

There taking business away from FedEx and UPS. They figure they can do it cheaper! Remember more Amazon trailers fewer UPS trailers.

I saw something on the news just tonight that Amazon is looking into doing their own shipping. Supposed to start in the LA area and expand from there?
50 years ago the Malls killed all of the small shops in the downtowns. Now the Malls are dying because of all the online stuff like Amazon. What's next?

Seen Amazon trailers on the UP in Arizona heading east.  First time I caught them, they were on the ZLAJX  (Premium Intermodal-Los Angeles-Jacksonville, FL).

Do you know if UP hands them off to NS to get them to Jax? The only train I've seen them on CSX was Jax to NJ.

I had a friend that tracked one of the trailers and was told it was handed off to NS at the end of the UP route.  Not sure where UP hands off to NS.

Amazon is great. There’s no need to run around to stores looking for something. Some people even order toilet paper and diapers that way.

The world is always changing.

Amazon has a huge distribution center in Baltimore. It is on the site of the old GM plant.
It is serviced by CSX.

Wow! No wonder UPS and FedEx are all shook up.

I haven't seen any of these on NS between Atlanta and Chattanooga yet.

Interesting that they are running along with UPS high priority consists.

Amazon is now getting some competition as one can purchase many of the same items sold there by utilizing other sites, www.walmart.com, www.costco.com, etc. Even there food operation Whole Foods is now receiving a great deal of competition, www.costco.com. Costco will home deliver perishables within 2 hours and staples within 2 days.

ME too, but, as I work for the railroad, I am home about 3 days a weeks at most. Online sources are the only way to get stuff. I don't have time to go shopping. No time whatsoever.

I would like to see Amazon flex its muscles with the railroads and get them focused on railroading. It will take serious execution to keep that business. Railroaders love such a challenge, even if the execs don't.
