So CSX has been doing a LOT of MoW on the North End Sub lately...

...and I've got a stupid question for anyone that knows MoW equipment. What's the difference between the regular-sized tampers you usually see in your average tamper/regulator pairing and the HUGE tampers that CSX shows up with sometimes in gangs? Don't see those very often.

CAT Tamper. Can do two ties at one time. If ties are spaced properly. Otherwise it destroys ties.
Upper management thinks there great. More footage in a day. Quality of the job isn’t as good with a CAT either as they only hit the tie once. That leaves a void under the tie and track starts pumping sooner.
It’s all about what looks better on paper to the managers.
