Chicago Terminal Railroad Goose Island Branch fate?
Author: stuporchief

I saw something posted online that IPH's Chicago Terminal Railroad has ceased service on its Goose Island Branch?.

Does anyone know if this is true, and can provide more information?

I drove by it this afternoon, and it has an out of service sign where it begins.

I don't think Chicago Terminal has made any long range / permanent decisions regarding its fate.

No more Goose Island IPA? Sad to see another branch shuttered.

That's interesting since it seemed IPH wanted to establish its rights to store cars on this very valuable piece of real estate.

The writing was on the wall as soon as Big Bay closed. End of an era, had I known I would have drove down for the last move. This branch never really had any long term viability with gentrification..

Tough to claim ownership of city right of way in which the tracks down Kingsbury Street and Cherry Street are located...

No light rail or streetcar potential?

Gentrification LOVES streetcars.

That topic comes up from time to time here in Chicago but none of the transit agencies or CDOT seem to be interested.

Connections could be made to the CTA Red Line North/Clybourn station and the CTA Blue Line at Damen. Of course that would also bring IDOT into the mix as North Avenue is also State Route 64.
The engineering for the replacement of the Division Street bridges on each side of Goose Island is scheduled to start soon via CDOT. Similar connections could be made to the Blue and Red Lines if the new bridges are designed with a streetcar in mind.
