Eastern Railroad Discussion > Some Tampa Happenings TodayDate: 04/09/18 11:29 Some Tampa Happenings Today Author: thegottfather As I drove over to play tennis this morning, I happened to luck out and catch the Clearwater local heading west. This is on the old main to St. Pete that Amtrak would have used.
Image 1: a single GP38-3 pulls 12 cars across the Hillsborough River in Tampa, FL. Image 2: A few hundred feet north, the same local crosses Waters Ave. Just north (to the right)of this crossing, the line splits with one track turning west towards Clearwater and the Drew Park auto ramp, and the other track heading north to serve Yuengling Brewing and on to Brooksville, FL. Image 3: An image from September of last year. One of the more interesting track setups I've seen. The branch to South Tampa/Port Tampa crosses the Hillsborough River on a drawbridge. On the west side of the river, the line hugs the University of Tampa's baseball field before turning southwest. Image 4: On the east side of the river, the track comes off the drawbridge, crosses the Tampa Riverwalk pedestrian path and immediately ducks under the city parking garage for the Glazer Children's Museum. After coming out from under the parking garage, the line then runs down the center of Polk St. for seven blocks through downtown Tampa. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/09/18 16:44 by thegottfather. It was kind of tough to tell as I was stopped at a light in Image 1 and at a stop sign for the second.
