Eastern Railroad Discussion > Fort Dix InformationDate: 04/10/18 18:28 Fort Dix Information Author: Eagle22 I was just wondering about Fort Dix. I googled the fort and there is some large yard with a bunch of plane white box cars along with a set of genset locomotives. I also see various leads going to various buildings, some of which are occupied by a boxcar that seem to be in the loading phase. Anyone know what this yard's purpose and railroad?
Look forward to your responses. Date: 04/11/18 04:26 Re: Fort Dix Information Author: PlyWoody Fort Dix, (formerly Camp Dix) NJ has had no railroad for many years. I can't imagine what you are seeing. The CSA ends at a waste shipper couple miles west of Mt. Holly. It is a restrictive military base and you can no longer drive through on the Wrightstown road. The miles of 2' gage built in 1917 was torn up during WWII as replaced by trucks. Does anyone remember the narrow gauge to the gunning range?

You are looking at NWS Earle. Date: 04/11/18 13:17 Re: Fort Dix Information Author: bioyans Sirsonic Wrote:

They used it years ago to remove contaminated dirt from a site on the base.

What was described in the initial query, however, certainly matches some elements of NWS Earle. I can't imagine there being a lot of rolling stock and modern locomotives on site at a branch that hasn't been used in years.
