South Buffalo Remote Controlled Whitcomb #66 on the move
Author: SouthBuffalo1

I had seen this Whitcomb unit sitting for years near the old Bethlehem Steel complex in Lackawanna NY. it was last used in 2004 at which time the coke oven complex was closed. I have a book by Stephan Koenig called the South Buffalo Railway. Details the rail operations of the BSC complex in Lackawanna. This was a unit BSC had purchased from the military in 1948. Was originally BSC # 142 (USA 8442). BSC pulled all the Whitcombs from servivce in 1971. This unit was then brought back to the Lackawanna complex in 1996 to work the coke ovens.

It is currently sitting on a depressed center flat car in the old Buffalo Creek yard off Ohio Street in South Buffalo. Not sure where it is headed. Interesting how it is welded to the flat car for transport.
