New Sherrif in town.
Author: ns2557

We were down in deep south Georgia a week or so ago. While down this way we went looking for the Valdosta RR. Wasn't in Valdosta Ga that we could see. But, their Main Office was over in Clyattville Ga. So, in seeing that it wasn't that far over off of I75 down this way, we thought, ok lets go check it out. (BTW, the "WE" is my hubby, ns2557). After getting lost abit, we sorta kinda stumbled upon this operation. While we got our shots in the light rain that was coming out of gray skies I noticed this. Apparently, the VR has hired a new Sherrif to patrol the tracks and yard area's down this way. Here, he is letting us no, watch your step, I have my eyes on ya, and if ya don't skeedadle out of here, I'll peck your legs and other extremeties til ya get the idea. Taken on April 7 2018 at Clyattville Ga. Big paper plant just south of here on GA HWY that led back to I75. Must be the major shipper down these parts. Watch yer step out here fella's. Ya'll take care, Kristie

According to ancient Roman legend, geese sacred to the goddess Juno were kept on the Capitoline Hill. When the barbarian Gauls tried to sneak up the hill and attack, the geese began honking and warned the soldiers. The Romans interpreted this warning as the work of Juno, so she ended up with the title Juno Moneta, Juno who warns. Later, the mint was located in the temple of Juno Moneta, and the coins minted there became known as moneta, from which we get the English money.

So the idea that a chicken could be of value as a law enforcement officer is not so far-fetched after all.

I know this is sort of off topic, but I couldn't resist.

That's interesting. Knew there was "value" as one might say in using geese, chickens, certain other birds as a warning system. Peacocks are some of the better types also. Thanks for the comment. Kristie

For several years the Valdosta Southern served the big juice and fruit packing plant in town.

Regular business hauling in packaging materials from the mill.
