If this old Shanty could talk

Imagine the stories that it could tell. Spent the afternoon in southeast Kentucky Saturday on the NS CNO&TP. At Stearns this old shanty has stood for many years observing many passing trains. After a short wait southbound NS 117 passes by with a battered UP unit leading it. Then about thirty minutes later when I wasn't totally prepared NS 275 rolls past with CREX 1508. I gave chase fortunately catching him just a fre miles south at Strunk Ky.

Looks like a "scale shack" and track for a weigh scale. Doug

If you look. You can see the fairbanks counter balance on top. Against the wall opposite the door

Probably used to weight hoppers of coal coming from Ky & Tenn RR to Southern interchange.
