Eastern Railroad Discussion > G&W Dispatching questionDate: 05/11/18 12:40 G&W Dispatching question Author: splicer In Western Pa I can hear the B&P dispatcher announcing "St Albans"to trains in Butler. I assume this is Vermont on the New England Central. Which leads to the question. What is the St Albans dispatchers range given the far flung G&W system?
thanks Paul Date: 05/11/18 12:58 Re: G&W Dispatching question Author: sums007 splicer Wrote:

NS crews frequently have issues getting the I&M dispatcher to answer the radio causing delays. The NS line cuts through downtown Springfield and hosts 15-18 moves a day, while the I&M may have 2-3. 5 on a busy day.

The Dispatcher has trains in different states and probably has multiple repeaters 'on' or broadcasting at the same time. There could be RF 'skip' or 'ducting' but it doesn't sound like this is happening. Date: 05/12/18 03:03 Re: G&W Dispatching question Author: Ray_Murphy NebraskaZephyr Wrote:

G&W Canada operations are dispatched by RailTerm. Ray Date: 05/12/18 03:08 Re: G&W Dispatching question Author: kgmontreal >

Albans? How many desks? Which desks control what?

They dispatch the bulk of G&W's US railroads. Radio signals are transmitted to and from trains via local repeaters. Also, train crews can call their railroad's desk at ARDC on a railroad approved electronic device in certain situations.

I believe ARDC at one time provided contract dispatching services for non-G&W railroads, but appears to have given up that business in favor of consolidating G&W's US dispatching at that location. |
