Yes, believe it or not, No. 3040 is limited to taking 7 loads up Paris Hill’s twisty 1.8% grade. With the significant annual spring increase in ag product to the big mills in Sangerfield, train size increases to a max of 14 loads with 2 engines. The extra engine will be off-branch by late June.

The road as a whole has an agreement to lease 4-6 CSAO units usually GP-38 types but I have seen GP and SD-40's as well. Because its shared assets agreement the units are a mix of NS and CSX variety. The agreement dates back to the sale of most of their 4 axle local power (GP-18s and GP38/40) except as seen here the 3040.

Reminiscent of the old days with the respectably sized train.
Nice video.

I do miss the friendly wave from the tower, the Blue Line and of course the trailing caboose.

Well I am from the left coast, but according to Historical ariels, there was a large group of structures off this branch. If you Google Sat view this line, you can see where the spur went to. Lots of large graded lots, so they (the older buildings-mills, factories....) where.

Who does this line have for customers currently?

Also, I agree, the tower is cool, and I hope it gets preserved some how.

The old siding was a track built by the DL&W along the old alignment of the Erie Canal known as the Blue Line. It was about 1.8 miles long or thereabouts and torn out in the 1990's by NYSW as business dried up or relocated. It basically parallels Oriskany Boulevard. The original canal alignment was somewhat along what is now Oriskany Blvd and was relocated in 1918 as part of the NYS Barge Canal project.

The crossing tower erected in 1952 by the DL&W is a preservation project of the Utica & Mohawk Valley Chapter, NRHS. It was automated in 1987 by NYS&W. It protected the cross streets on Schuyler and controlled the gates on Oriskany Blvd.
