How can you have a plan without orders?

No different than what EMD/GM went through when all production was moved to London Ontario. London was too small to handle all the work so EMD outsourced assembly.

The plan was to move production to Ft Worth and shut down as much of Erie as possible.

I binge-watched the first few seasons of the TV show 30 Rock last weekend. One of the premises is Alec Baldwin's character is a Jack Welch devotee, and was spewing "the plan", "six sigma arc", and all the other corporate speak popular in the era.

The Plan was a big deal in those days. Jeff Immelt didn't have much of a plan to pick up the pieces when the plan came crashing down, though.

After Jack Welch took his cash and left...

Seems like propping up the "plan" was GE Capital financing trips to Lowes with private label credit cars and other shaky investments.  GE Capital's "profitability" gave wings to a lot of nonsense.

GE also put a lot of money into financing long term care programs. That was a chunk of the most recent write off.
