All a long way from home - Droney's PA on the B&P
Author: train1275

This afternoon (August 16, 2018) I happened by chance to catch the Buffalo & Pittsburgh road job heading south out of Bradford, PA on the Salamanca - Punxatawney run over the old B&O / BR&P in Western Pennsylvania.

There is a pretty steep pull south out of Lewis Run where they cross Droney Road so I parked to watch the show. Lots of noise as they worked the grade at maybe 15 - 20 mph.

A look at the power brought forth the thought of how far away from home these units were from where they started life.

1. P&W 4301 is an SD70M-2 that came from Florida East Coast (FEC 100) December 2006
2. B&P 3344 SD40-3 was Canadian National 5157 built in May 1970 as an SD40. The number rings a bell and I bet sometime in the 70's I lensed this unit north of the border. It was also rostered by KCS.
3. B&P 452 began life as an SD45 back in "Hustle Muscle" days of August 1966 as Southern Pacific 8824. It is now a long way from Donner Pass but still pulling hard for a living - albeit with 16 cylinders.
4. Bringing up the rear is Wellsboro & Corning 301 an SD40-2 built in March 1972 for Quebec, Northshore &  Labrador

WCOR 301 brings up the rear as the train heads south.

Nice! The horseshoe curve at Droneys is a great place to watch and listen as the units dig in on the grade and make for the summit at Bingham!

Fool me once.......shame on me.......thread title had me salivating over an ALCO PA found in Droney's barn, or some such thing.  It must be in the stall next to that as yet undiscovered NYC Hudson.

Good catch with the 'M-2 leading... Gotta get myself back to the B&P one of these days to track those units down...
