Looking west and east from the Marietta St. overpass.  These were taken today, 11/17/2018 at around 8a.m. on my way home from work.

That view in shot 3 shows why it has a HUGE real estate potential...
(a view NS Inman doesn't have even before development on Tillford)

The last three looking east and west. You can tell by the 2nd pic I was cold. It was 34 degrees and I really needed some hot chocolate, a hot shower, and a nap before getting on with the rest of the day.

611Fan, please, enjoy.

Lots of flatlands and open space.  Looks like it would be a nice place for a railroad yard.  Maybe someone should tell CSX.

That very well maybe true, however, with the mains running along the property and all the "enviromental cleanup" needed for the area, how many WILLING devopers are going to want to risk money like that only to find out it can't be done without billions in clean up??  And right were I was standing Inman was over and behind me to the right making all kinds of noise.  You think people will wanna pay big bucks to live with that kinda noise all the time??  I mean really??  I think they would have to be crazy to live right there with that.  Just saying is all.

Doubtful it will be redeveloped as residential. Industrial or commercial seems more likely givn the area , potential rail service close by and what the area is probably zoned for..

As for the environmental clean up, there are all sorts of tax incentives and grants that municipalities are more than ready to offer with the idea of jobs and economic growth.

Ha! Yeah I was looking right into the sun.  I couldn't even SEE the image on the camera screen in some of those pics. It was kinda point and shoot with luck.

I think Atlanta is about "tax incentived" out dealing with NS wanting to move it's headquaters here and giving them a break. And right now tax payers aren't to impressed with that deal or anymore like it for a while.

Area to the north has just been developed with new townhomes... and a lot of cities are currently expanding residential zoning (in a heartbeat) because commercial and industrial buyers are tougher to find.  With the adjacent residential already (and people there likely wanting any new development to their south to be residential instead of commercial/industrial) that's ripe for residential redevelopment.

That's true, PLUS as I noted in the other thread if that is good ole Georgia clay or shallow granite beneath Tillford then the depth of cleanup may not be more than typically done with mid-rise residential developments...   So the costs to new developer (and taxpayers) may be a lot less than with other railroad yard conversions.

The Tillford parcel is large enough for a city hub or town center type development, with adequate road access, potential rail commuter access to downtown, and other things to get potential developers lining up for their chance at milions/billions...

When I was first hired we were taken to the Tilford hump tower to observe the goings on. There were still a few Prior right ACL people working though they were quite old. To say I have mixed feelings about bulldozing the works is to put it mildly.

He/she rarely ever responds to anything he/she ever posts. And then some wonder why some are so negative about him/her!
