About noon today, a loaded tank car got loose thru Bethlehem, PA.  From reports on Facebook, the car may have been from the ESPN at Emmaus Jct, and reportedly it ran all the way out to Richards (Remington) east of Steel City.

There is a you tube video "Runaway Tank Car", recorded by someone in the area.

Wow! Just watched the YouTube video, looks like it was taken in South Bethlehem from the Hill to hill bridge.

Does this explain why trains are all backed up on the Reading line?

294 is sitting at Schlossburg just west of Alburtis, 24Z is sitting in mertztown, 20E just ran Main 1 around both, followed by 36Q on Main 1, 20K and 39G are somewhere in the picture, and the H68 is waiting at Belt for track back to Allentown.

Looks to be rolling at a pretty good clip too!

how did this car come off the junction in Emmaus without derailing in the switch.

The Reading use to put helpers to get trains out if Allentown as far as Emmaus. So yes from Emmausjct to Allentown is down hill going east.

Actually, the top of the grade is at Topton. Hence the name.

I was wondering what was going on. When I passed H68 I heard them say something about a car out on the main and a broken derail but that was it.

Did anyone notice the tank car knock down the clear signal at CP 88?  I wonder how far east autorouter had the tank car lined up.

CP 88 has been gone now for a while.

The interlocking is REDINGTON. like the name of the road that runs next to it.

True, but the Reading cut the helpers off at Emmaus.

Though. reportedly, it ran up to speeds of 50 mph on its 15 mile run, it's not moving very fast in the video.
