Very Short Q317 under the lights at Keyser, WV - 11/27/18
Author: DTWilson

Q317-27 Departed Cumberland with 2 locomotives and 5 cars. We have been use to having 100 plus car train lengths, so this one was a surprise tonight. Four of their cars would be set out at Keyser as inbound traffic for the Verso paper Mill at Luke, MD.

Before they departed, the Q317 picked a locomotive and a MoW Gondola to make the count 3 motors and 2 cars when they departed Keyser for Grafton, WV

1) Q317 shoving their 4 car set off into the west yard at Keyser.

2) The power for Q317-27 was the same power Q316 came east with earlier in the morning. The Q317 power ready to back down on another west yard track to pick up a locomotive and gondola.

3) Returning to their "Train" / car on track #1 at Keyser.

At least they didn't need a shove up 17 mile grade...

Must have not got our cars switched up . Look out for for the next Q317 it will probably be loaded down. Last week Grafton was loaded down with eastbound freight. They ran a 2nd Q316 but it went north to Newell rather than over the mountain.

Nice.
Yes, I realize I'm probably out of the mainstream when it comes to favoring these "under the lights" shots, but it does add a unique look.
Too bad there's not more locations with adequate lighting like Keyser, that are accessible.
It may not be optimum, but it's obviously enough to make the difference between getting a photo and not getting a photo (or a reasonable shutter speed vs a multi-minute expsosure).
I'm not really well-versed on commercial exterior lighting, but I'm guessing these are sodium vapor lamps?

Nice photos!    Did the helpers stop under Harrision or did they stop before that?    The helpers I remember were SD50s and the 10 SD60s....so I am dating myself lol
