Is the Amtrak station in Anniston, AL a good safe place to be track side and get train photos?  Thanks.

Yes, the station and platform areva safe place to railfan from. I cannot speak for the area at night, but have no concerns with spending time there in the daylight hours.

local neighborhood is a little iffy. watch your back and keep an eye on your surroundings. try not to be out there after dark,unless you are driving thru. its a bit safer in pell city and lincoln and heflin and is pretty much the same traffic.

The Amtrak station itself is decent. But I wouldn't go more than 500 feet away from it and as others said, don't get caught there after dark.

Bruce;

A WB manifest taken from W. 4th St., taken on 29 Jan., 2008, looking south. At the time this was taken, there was a GP60 that was behind me sitting idle, which was being used as local switch power.

Russ

Station was renovated in 2008. There are proposals to extend the platform that sometimes requires a double stop.
