NS Signs Of New Operating Plan More Combo's??
Author: NSSpike

I'd Say So.
This morning as NS 225 (ATLANTA, GA- SHREVEPORT, LA (UP ZAILC) sat in the Taylor / Temple siding an east bound rolled by on the main their question was as the back half rolled by...“ What is your train?” 198 a 198 / 298 combo.NS 198 (NEW ORLEANS, LA – MACON, GA) NS 298 (NEW ORLEANS, LA - ATLANTA, GA).
NS 198 is a manifest off the UP.      NS 298 is auto racks & containers.

What other opportunities for combo's like this can we expect to see or are seeing out there???

Was wondering when this was going to start.  Thought about this when I started to see the midtrain DPUs CSX was running everywhere.  I think we are seeing great changes in operational procedures with PSR.

There's a lot of duplicate Pittsburgh Line and Chicago Line intermodals with the same or similar routes; 21E and 21J come to mind... It wouldn't surprise me; CSX combined Q018 and Q020 into a regularly huge Q020; they did the same thing merging all of the UPS traffic from Q009 and Q017 together onto an overgrown 017... Pretty sure they also tried running Q019 as part of Q003 west of DeWitt, and 003 had already been two trains in one (combined with Q007 east of Cleveland)... They've since undone a bit of this, as Q009 lately seems to have some UPS traffic, and I've seen some Q019s west of DeWitt in recent times...

So yeah, if they're following CSX's playbook from two years ago, as it seems they are, I'd say it's a safe bet...

Q009 runs to Bedford Park daily again (started in September)
Q019 is scheduled to run to Bedford Park Tue-Sat since June.

Thank you... I gave up trying to keep track of all the changes a long time ago since there's been so many...

If you're on Facebook the CSX Train Symbols Update group lists most of the changes.

If not, then I manage a list of road trains here on trainorders and also manage most of the railroadfanwiki website for BNSF, CN, CP, CSX, NS, and UP symbols.
