CSX and UP in New Orleans?
Author: Soo715

With the sale of the CSX line in the Panhandle of Florida and over to...Mobile(?) could anyone provide an update on which CSX trains now operate into and out of New Orleans?  Also, are there still some through trains interchanged between UP and CSX in New Orleans? A couple years ago I observed such trains being handed off on the mainline in the City Park area but I don't know if that is still the case or not. Any updates would be appreciated!

The current CSX trains to / from New Orleans are:

Q520 New Orleans, LA - Nashville, TN
Q521 Nashville, TN - New Orleans, LA
Q602 New Orleans, LA (UP MLIWX) - Waycross, GA
Q605 Waycross, GA - New Orleans, LA
Q610 New Orleans, LA - Atlanta Howells, GA
Q611 Atlanta Howells, GA - New Orleans, LA
M705 Waycross, GA - New Orleans, LA
M706 New Orleans, LA - Waycross, GA

The UP to CSX via New Orleans trains are:

AARGN Arlington, TX - New Orleans, LA (CSX)
AEGGN Eagle Pass, TX (FXE) - New Orleans, LA (CSX)
MLIGN Livonia, LA - New Orleans, LA (CSX)
MLIWX Livonia, LA - New Orleans, LA (CSX Q602)

MLIWX / Q602 is the only true run-through.  All other eastbound UP-CSX interchange traffic is reblocked at CSX’s Gentilly Yard.  All westbound UP interchange traffic is reblocked at UP’s Avondale Yard.

CSX no longer shows an intermodal ramp nor trains into/out of Gentilly.  The most recent Google Maps aerial shows no intermodal equipment there nor any trailers/containers/chassis.  Looks like they have exited that market: I don't see the other ramps around there filling the void.

That’s correct.  CSX closed its intermodal ramp at Gentilly the other year as well as some other smaller ramps.  The rest of CSX’s intermodal interchange traffic was shifted to the Memphis gateway.

I thought the Q520 was built and left from Pensacola, FL? As I think this was the case 10 years ago! If not, are there still any trains being built and departing to points north of Pensacola?
