My First Visit to The Chesapeake and Indiana Railroad
Author: Ohiorailfan

I have never done anything with this paticular railroad so I headed up to Thomaston, Indiana on Tuesday morning after hearing there was going to be a train heading north from there. Around 9am the crew and Ex DMIR SDM #804 headed up to Union Mills with 20 loads. Once arriving in Union Mills they tied onto the power on the main which was SDM #815 and GP38-2 #5152. They would then head to the mill and run around the train and make the 815 the leader. They would switch for an hour or so before heading back to Thomaston with all 3 units. For those that don't know the CKIN runs between Union Mills and La Crosse, Indiana and the power for the time being is rebuilt Ex DMIR and EJE SDM's and ex NS GP38-2 highhoods. Enjoy!

804, 815 and 818 are former DM&IR SD9s that later went to the EJ&E.  The first two were rebuilt by DM&IR and reclassified as SDM.  818 was rebuilt and reclassified as SD18U.  CN sold them off after taking over the J in 2009.

Thanks for the photos.

Great coverage. I get the "Indiana" part but where does "Chesapeake" come in? It's a long way from the bay!

C&I runs on former Chesapeake & Ohio track between North Judson and Malden, and on ex-Pere Marquette--hence C&O--track betwee LaCrosse and Wellsboro.

Note the similarity of their logo to the C&O's.
