A question about NS's Dover / Washington (NJ) local
Author: Pattenburg

I have been told that this local (symbol H-02?) operates over NS's Washington Secondary on Mondays and Thursdays. Does that still hold true? Thanks for any information.

Don't know about that, but how many shippers are left?

There is Borelis in Port Murray that receives a number of ACF covered hoppers. Yusen Logisitics, also in Port Murray. was also mentioned in the D&DR Lease to the STB as another shipper along the line.

NS is leasing the Washington Secondary to the Dover & Delaware River RR.

The Washington Secondary is still a Norfolk Southern operation. The Dover & Delaware River has filed the necessary paperwork with the Surface Transportation Board concerning plans to lease the secondary from Norfolk Southern. The shortline operator will likely begin operations by early Spring.

Washington NJ and Port Morris NJ used to be major freight and shop operations on the Lackawanna.

It was the flash point of the 1926 (IIRC) strike that cost many railroaders some or all of their seniority.
