Looking For "Keepers"
Author: overniteman

West of Allentown was and is still a great place to shoot train pics.
The clearances on the old Reading are tight though and it makes you work  for "keepers".

Over at Macungie, Pa. it can get real tight.  However, there's a nice railfan park that's well maintained and the flowers are beautiful.
Norfolk Southern GE ET44AC 3610 leads an Eastbound Herzog ballast train that's creeping along and leaving a nice trail of dust.

East of Macungle lies Alburtis. The names of these Pennsylvania towns are great and if you're talking to another railfan and mispronounce one.....OH BOY.

Anyway, back to the action.  As the evening starts to appear and everthing softens up, we hear a train on the scanner.
Soon, an empty NS oil makes it's way to us, but it's limping. Bad.

NS EMD SD60M 6793 is laying down a sweet trail of smoke. What tier is it from?
Alburtis, Pennsylvania.

Back over to Macungie, here's a pair so rare now, the H/U tracks them (or did).

Twin Norfolk Southern EMD SD70's are Westbound with a mixed manifest.

The person in the second cab is operating the remote control for the ballast cars.
He opens and closes the bay doors with it.
