GE Transportation sale to Wabtec completed
Author: Lackawanna484

GE will be a 24.9% owner in the new entity.  There's a description of the process, which includes a sale of some assets, a spinoff of some interests to GE shareholders, and a merger of some GE Transportation interests into Wabtec. The original plan was changed to give GE more cash upfront.

We'll see what they do with the Erie, PA loco plant.

Someday our progeny will be chasing the last GM's and GE's, as they will be seeing the new Progress Rails and Wabtecs and maybe Siemens. Weird. === === = === JLH

I can see it now, SMS runs out of Baldwin parts and turns to GE's!

I received this from a friend. Is it real or Photoshop made?

And it looks like a lot of that could depend on Wabtec and the
Erie union resolving their differences.

The contract that GE had with the union (UE 506) expired with
the Wabtec acquisition.  According to local media, the two parties
are at odds over a number of issues, including a two tier pay system --
current employees retain  their current wage, but new (to include called
back people who were laid off) would have a 38% reduced rate.
Other issues include mandatory overtime, reduction in job classifications,
vacation scheduling, plus others.

The union membership has authorized a strike, which can be called by
union leadership.  There are no further negotiations scheduled, once again
according to local media.  There are currently about 1700 union members.

Looks like a photoshop job that started with one of the PR pictures GE took of the blue demos while they were testing in Pueblo, CO.

I have some GE stock that has dropped badly in recent times.  I wonder if my share of this sale will be a six axle locomotive or some loco parts?

My guess is that they'll be chasing third and fourth time rebuilt SD40-2, GP38-2s and GP40-2s... while the new stuff has "teething issues" due to the future levels of unnecessary environmental and safety systems.

If they are twice as good as hydrogen cell fork lifts, diesel engines with be around for a long time.
