As I said in another post, and when time premits, I'll be posting construction pics of the new NS headquaters building here in ATL.  It's just a short walk from where I live and the exercise will do me good :^)  Right now at the site there is not much to see, just the usuall ground prep work and so on. As mentioned before in other posts, the site is bounded by 3rd street to the north, West Peachtree to the east, Ponce de Leon to the south and Spring St. to the west with the AT&T building right across the street to the east.

Pic one is looking southwest from the corner of West Peachtree and 3rd.  The other two are facing West Peachtree.

These three pics are from the Spring Street side of the project. In a couple of years the veiw in the second pic will look VERY much different.  The Atlanta ladmark, The Varsity, is just off to the right in the second picture.

It will be situated very close to "The Varsity."  All the NS workers will be hanging out there for lunch!  They'll have to expand the place some more.

One has to believe that the power poles with transformers along with the phone and cable lines will be gone and underground.
Otherwise they will look like barnacles on the tail end of prosperity.

That's very doubtful.

Will the building currently occupied by NS on Peachtree Street be sold and all dispatchers moved to the new headquarters building?

Heartburn mostly.  At least thats what I got the first and last time  I ate there. :^)

I find it amazing that The Varsity has hung on in an area of rising real estate values.

I doubt any N&W Roanoke headquarters personnel who regularly ate at the Roanoke Wiener Stand  (original hole in the wall version) are still around, but I expect the NS railroaders will be fond of the hot dogs down the street. If I was working there, I probably would be good for at least twice a week.

I appreciate this post, and look forward to your coverage of the construction.

All very nice for the 8 / 261 ( 8 hour a day, five day a week) "managers".

The relocated dispatchers in Atlanta will be lucky to find time during their work shifts to go to
the bathroom to say nothing of eating a hot dog.

No this is a new land pruchase by NS.

The site is 0.8 miles ENE of the former Southern coach yard, 1.5 miles NNE of the former Terminal Station, 1.8 miles SE of the former Howell Tower, and 1.9 miles S of Peachtree Station. 

I really hate seeing this. Sorry but I'm a Norfolk native.
