NS Heritage times 2 on 25V (4-6-19)
Author: GoodTimeCharlie

Saturday 4/6 was a special day along the NS Pittsburgh Line as many fans were treated to two Heritage units on 25V (E-Rail at Linden, NJ to Chicago intermodal), Conrail ES44AC #8098 led Reading SD70ACe #1067 and D9-44CW #9355 with a l-o-n-g stack train.  To tackle the mountain, NS hooked up 2 sets of helpers - 4 SD40Es - on the tail end !

First shot was around 9:30 am, as the train crept by ANTIS and then HOMER, east of Altoona.

Altoona was busy, and 25V didn't get its helpers and begin to move out of Altoona until around 10:30 or shortly thereafter.  2nd shot was taken at 10:55 from the 24 & 1/2 St bridge, facing downtown Altoona.  The old SLOPE tower was located here, and back in the day, controlled the whole set of mains, crossovers and side tracks - including a turntable - as the route west begins to climb the mountain.

The third shot (taken around 11:30) was taken in Cresson, PA, on the other side of the mountain, a mile or so after # 2 and 3 tracks exit the Allegheny tunnel and begin the decent down the mountain.  Tracks exiiting the two tunnels (Allegheny, and New Portage tunnel) are separated until reaching this spot near Rt. 53.
