DL's Dickson City (PA) derailment aftermath
Author: Pattenburg

Had to be in the Dickson City area to tend to some business and decided to see how much progress was made in cleaning up after Tuesday's DL derailment. It had occurred at Dickson City's Eagle Lane grade crossing. The link to the previous day's thread about this is found below.

According to an article in the Wednesday's Times-Tribume, the train was traveling from Scranton to Carbondale "...three cars carrying lumber and sand used for fracking tumbled off the tracks; a fourth car tilted. A total of roughly 10 cars came off the tracks." Have to wonder though what became of the DL power with the line back to Scranton being severed? Being unfamiliar with this area and having no idea where this derailment occurred, I drove down one street and came across this D&H caboose near the Dickson City Depot. It proved to be a nice surprise.

Apparently the caboose was built for D&H in 1959 (thought it might have been one of the ex-RDG extended cupola cabooses D&H acquired when it extended its routes when Conrail was created in 1976 but no...) and was donated by CP five years ago: https://www.pahomepage.com/news/historic-caboose-donated-to-dickson-city/132614276
