Eastern Railroad Discussion > Allentown Yard.Date: 04/16/19 18:48 Allentown Yard. Author: jim6300loco Has anyone heard anyting about Allentown Yard being shut down and all classification being sent to Enola? Someone on a FB page called Allentown Chronicals said he heard Allentown Yard was being shut down. I think their full of bad coal.
Date: 04/16/19 18:54 Re: Allentown Yard. Author: Lackawanna484 Doubtful.
I passed both yards recently, and commented on how empty Enola looked. And that Allentown looked pretty good, maybe half full. There are a lot of local shippers in the Allentown area. Posted from Android Date: 04/16/19 19:27 Re: Allentown Yard. Author: OHRY There have been rumors floating for the last several weeks about it. Yet they appear to be just that, rumors. Allentown has always been an oddity to those down south who look at a map and go why send freight there. At this point I wouldn't believe anything until I see it happen.

How many road trains originate/terminate there now? Date: 04/17/19 02:30 Re: Allentown Yard. Author: ALCO630 Those rumors would pop up from time to time since early Conrail days. I wouldn't take them to heart.

Conrail re-profiled the hump with one retarder and cars were rolling out the west end of the bowl. Conrail installed skid retarders to keep the cars in the bowl!
so i doubt that Allentown would shut dowm. Maybe Enola. Gonut Date: 04/20/19 13:38 Re: Allentown Yard. Author: Keystone1 You are right! There will ALWAYS be a General Electric and Sears & Roebuck!
