Louisville & Indiana 2011 vs 2019
Author: srman

I live near the Louisville & Indiana's yard in Jeffersonville Indiana so the opportunity over the years has allowed me to often photograph their operations. One shot that I've wanted to catch since they went to a Pennsy paint scheme a few years ago was one that I captured back in July 2011 when they were in the green and yellow. The sun has to set more in the north during the summer months and three locomotives have to be pointed north. This evening everything was aligned right to recreat the shot as close as to the one I took back on July 16,2011.

Love it.  Another thing that changed is the track itself, looks like a mainline now and not the 25MPH Pennsy jointed rail it was in 2011.  Nice photos!

Pleasantly surprised that the sanding tower was repainted in the new colors as well.

It's a busy line, too.  I is 49 mph to Indy.

Great capture Joe. It's always good to have self-assignments to keep you on your toes.

I really can't tell anyone times of their operations. There are daily trips to Louisville to exchange cars with the NS or PAL however times can vary depending on when CSX will run their Q trains either to Cincinnati or Indy. I've heard that there is a daily freight that runs from Columbus to Indy that leaves in the afternoon. I do know one job that runs to the Jeff Port via the CSX Nabb branch that usually gets out around 3:30-4 in the afternoon. I just live close and if I'm off from work and hear that something is leaving I might head trackside.

Yup, CSX invested lots of upgrades to that line as they have trackage rights over it for mainly northbounds to Cincinnati and further points north.
