NS SD60I`s
Author: globalethanol

Does anyone on here know if NS has put to rest the remaining SD60I`s that were still running? I saw a 534 Strawberry Ridge Coal train on Saturday with a trio of 7000 SD60E`s up front. Normally it would have been 3 60I`s. Just seemed strange.

I had heard they were in the process of making a few SD60Es ready to take over the duties.

The remaining SD60I's are stored pending sale and disposition. SD60E's 7012-7035 are being modified for use on the Strawberry Ridge coal trains.

Not yet, but with PSR in full effect, I wouldn't look for them to turn many more revenue miles.

Guess the ex-CR GEs are considered part of the surge fleet at this point.

The front and rear pilots and the plow have the corners notched for clearance.  See the photo of the modified 7013....credit to Marc Lingenfelter.

Thank goodness. 99% of them are worn out pieces of junk.

What’s carload express and why would they need big six axle locomotives?

Carload Express is the operator of several shortlines in the mid-Atlantic states, including the Allegheny Valley in the Pittsburgh area and the Delmarva Central in Delaware. They use six-axled power on their road trains.
