Schenectady Area Railfanning
Author: train1275

Schenectady, NY Home of General Electric and American Locomotive Works as well as Union College.
Today, July 13, 2019 was sunny, so grab the camera and go.

1. NS Train 11R by surprise leaving Mohawk Yard with NS 9707 leading.
2. Lunch at Katie O'Byrnes is a nice place to sit and watch trains and get a good bite to eat, here Amtrak #700 arrives with Train 281 briefly interupting lunch.
3. Then NS 30T comes through heading for Binghamton with NS 3651 leading.

A walk about the historic stockade district, here is Lawrence the Indian, a hero of the brutal Schenectady Massacre of February 1690.

The old historic St. George's Church dating back to 1759.

Back to railfanning up the Mohawk River at Cranesville at Lock 10 we catch Amtrak 706 leading Train 283 west.

The Amtrak 283 heads west up the river. Several hours along the old Water Level Route yielded just this one train. No CSX freights and no boats along the river and through the lock.

Over the other side of Schenectady we see Amtrak Train #68 The Adirondack coming down from Montreal and crossing the Mohawk on the D&H bridge a few minutes out of the Schenectady Station.

A little south towards sunset at Howes Cave on the D&H is 16R with NS 911 in the middle descending the grade towards Central Bridge.

Thanks for sharing.  We lived in Schenectady in the early 70's.  Focused my railfanning on the D&H at that time and made several visits to Colonie Shops.

Interesting shots, thanks for posting.  Lots of history in that area, railroad and otherwise.  Too bad the Water Level Route was so quiet on a nice day.
