Virtual Railfan Plant City FL operator problem
Author: gmojim

I am sick of the administrator on the Virtual Railfan Plant City 360 cam zooming out to the east as a train passes eastbound on the A line.  I can barely see what is on the train as the zoom goes out to the max to see the train pass a signal about a half mile up the track. This is ridiculous. I pay money to see the train not some zoomed out shot. Have same problem on Barstow CA east cam but I do not watch it as there is a Barstow west cam with no controls so that I can see the train with the good view of what is on the train. I am very interested in what is on the trains, not the locomotives. In fact I would not pay the money if only the locomotives and not the whole train was shown.
Comments welcome. Anybody else have the problem.

I have been highly supportive of Virtual Railfan website. Have yearly subscription. These cams that zoom out can create problems if you want to see what is on the train. I pay the money to see the entire train as the railcars and intermodal containers and trailers are my main interest, not the locomotives.

I don’t see it doing much good to complain on here. Have you contacted Virtual Railfan with your complaints ?

I feel your pain. This is a big reason I refuse to subscribe to VR.

No, works for me.

You can't please everyone all the time so if you don't like it, dont renew your subscription.  I am a subscriber, but, dont frequent the Plant City cam.

There are a number of very good camera operators on VR.  And others who can give you whiplash.

On the Ashland VA camera, one guy offers wonderful modeling help with close ups of the brake assemblies, or wi-fi hookups on the cafe cars. While the train is stopped.  Or a view of the door control panel. And slowly turns to get the train's departure.

In some cases, an operator will turn the camera too quickly, creating out of focus results.

But, all in all, it's a great service.  For me, at least.

Yeah PTZ's are a headache when the op doesn't know how to move the thing.Dropped my sub a long time ago just due to the poor attitudes when asking questions or offering help (like train info, etc),you'll get "hammered" or "banned" if you're not in the little circle of buddies there, whether on the main chat or the YouTube ones,so I don't have much use for it.I use a couple YT channels for my AMTK consists daily but avoid any other contact with any of the cronies.
