D&H Doings Hot Summer Day
Author: train1275

It's hot and humid as blazes here in Upstate NY along the Susquehanna and Mohawk Rivers and the AC in the car feels good until you have to step out into what feels like South Florida.

1. NS 8142, 4140, 4007 lead a late 22K north through Bainbridge, NY about to pass under Route 7.

2. At Otego they are out behind Anderson's Pond

3. While waiting at Schoharie Junction this butterfly attracted my attention.

Here is the 22K just beyond the old Schoharie Junction with the Schoharie Valley Railroad.

A going away shot as they head towards Esperance Station.

The other side of Schenectady Amtrak #69 the Adirondack crosses the Mohawk River Bridge and will be going through Mohawk Yard. Amtrak 105 is the power.

Shortly after the passage of Train 69, here comes the 22K we first saw down in Bainbridge, NY

A slight diversion over to the Mohawk and we find Amtrak #281 The Empire Service with the 703 leading passing Lock 14 at Nelliston.

Then CSX 436 with 7791 trailing out of sight moves autos, or mty autos west past the Amsterdam Amtrak.

Nice series of shots.

Any bass in Anderson's pond? and that spot near Lock 14 looks good.

A drive-by at Rotterdam Junction finds GE 7545 and EMD 3402 in the yard at Pan Am.

Back to our D&H subject is Train 11R the Pan Am connection winding it up through Delanson (Delaware and HudsonĀ with NS 9870, leading 9797 and 9151.

A couple of wrecked tank cars are being transported on the head end.

The 11R passes a nice farmstead with stone fencing between Delanson and Esperance Station.

11R climbs out of Central Bridge up the grade towards Howes Cave.

And now passing through Worcester, NY north of Oneonta.

Last shot of the day is the 11R we first caught in Delanson passing through Otego as seen from the I-88 connector bridge.

Thanks
not sure about any bass in the pond, maybe bullhead, but it is a nice cleared area here in an otherwise sea of brush and overgrowth.

Great picture of #281 at bucolic Lock #14!

Operating conditions were considerably poorer in late June 2006, when a major flood hit the Mohawk Valley!

1. Washout at MP 190 looking west - About 10 miles east of Lock #14
2. Lock #14 during the flood
3. Washout at MP 201 looking east - 2 miles west of Lock #14 (around curve in distance)
