A Few From The Chicagoland Area
Author: Ohiorailfan

Yesterday a friend and I headed to the Chicago are for the day. This trip was a little different compared to usual. We spent the first few hours looking for trains to shoot and then we headed to Chinatown to eat a few resturants which were fantastic. We started at Gary like we always do and the only interesting train in the 30 minutes we were there was NS 67X with a CN SD70M-2, C40-8 and BCOL C40-8M. We then headed to East Chicago where we noticed two trains were already lined on the IHB. The eastbound was the NS bottle train while the westbound was IHB GP40P-2 #4010 heading to Gisbon to turn and return to Calumet. After those 2 cleared a CBFX SW1500 moved a string of empty coal hoppers and the 2 IHB GP40-2's left Calumet with a transfer towards Gibson yard. All 4 trains in 30 minutes. Then headed over to Homewood where WC 3021 was seen. The unit apparently was pulled out of the storage line behind the shop and placed closer to the road. Last 2 stops were Hodgkins and the Ex EMD shops at La Grange where EMDX SD90MAC demo #90 and Oakway SD60 #9041 were seen along with EMDX 1501. Enjoy!

Very interesting photo series,
The IHB units are certainly colorful.
Photos of the EMD units are scarce on TO.
Thanks for a very nice post.

Thanks for the great photos. I used to travel down Kennedy Avenue in EC along the IHB tracks fairly often, and frequently encountered an IHB train. Those signals on the cantilever that govern Calumet interlocking are fairly new, and the lower signals can also display a lunar aspect (on the bottom), which I believe is somewhat uncommon.
