Interesting side note: Volvo gets zero in and ships nothing out by rail Rich S Date: 07/22/19 13:43 Re: Freight Car of America to close in Roanoke Va Author: CSX602 Railroading is now such backpage news in Roanoke that the major media editors don't even recognize the problem with the story saying "Norfolk and Southern Railroad"... smh...
Oh how that city has changed... From the heart of railroading where the magnificent Js were brought to life, to the ingrown toenail of railroading where the city is licking its chops to someday taking a wrecking ball to that same building (probably for another ugly-as-sin modern arts building)... Date: 07/22/19 17:49 Re: Freight Car of America to close in Roanoke Va Author: lapklub No one is buying new cars at the present. With PSR there is a LOT of cars AND power stored. With coal dwindling, no one is buying new hoppers with them being stored everywhere. Power lasts a lot longer than in the past.
It was nothing for F's and early Geeps to only last 10-15 years at most. Now power last a lot longer, and then is rebuilt into a "new" locomotive. This doubles or triples the life of a locomotive. They can't sell new locos(the manufactures) when the railroads have lots of good power stored. And most lasted over 25yrs.
