Eastern Railroad Discussion > Busy Times On The Union RailroadDate: 08/19/19 08:15 Busy Times On The Union Railroad Author: Ohiorailfan After the Cumberland Mine we headed up to Pittsburgh in hopes of seeing the AVR meet the C28 and make interchange. After a couple hours it was clear the AVR was not running so we headed down towards Port Perry. Upon arriving a Union Ore train headed across the river and would end up making a few moves before heading back over. We then headed down to Clariton to wait on the Coke train. Around 4pm 5 matching M15DC's hauled around 90 loads up the near 2 percent grade out of the plant and up towards Duquesne. This coke train has been on my list for sometime and is sometimes a daylight run and sometimes all nocturnal. Shortly after the coke train we caught a loaded steel train with one of the few units that wears the Green Paint Scheme leading 2 Yellow and Red units. Once reaching the plant another train backed into the plant with scrap gons and 2 more Union MP15DC's. Not bad for a Sunday afternoon/evening. Enjoy!!

Lease a few SD40s or something for goodnees sake! Those switchers were definately not designed to do that.

And yes, they’ve been running multiple unit sets of MPs on these trains for decades and they’ve always performed better on URR’s tight curves than anything they’ve tested to replace them.
You also must have just missed the AVR, they went over and back in mid afternoon. Posted from iPhone Date: 08/19/19 16:40 Re: Busy Times On The Union Railroad Author: salrwy Awesome images. The Union railroad and its EMD switchers are a treasure.
