Central Maine & Quebec
Author: rkap10

A friend and I are planning to attempt to photograph CM&Q's trains 1 &2 in a couple of weeks. We would appreciate any suggestions as to whether we should go to Quebec or to Maine and if Quebec where would be best to start our photography. Also, any information as to days of operation would be musty appreciated.

In addition, does anyone have information about the line from Farnham down to Newport, VT, and any other short lines in Quebec? Thanks. Bob Kaplan

The August 2019 issue of Trains Magazine published an excellent cover story on CM&Q: http://trn.trains.com/issues/2019/august-2019

And here's a link to a frequently updated CM&Q Raiflans FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Central.maine.and.quebec/

a friend of mine lives up that way and he said they start west out of N.Maine junction at 4pm so you may run into some lighting issues for the westbound

Indeed, the way they currently run east of Jackman, it's very hard to get much of Job 1 or Job 2 in daylight in Maine. Job 1 is on duty around 1500/1600 at BROWNVILLE Junction and turns back at Jackman with No. 2 in the middle of the night. The problem with the road freights in Quebec is that they run against the light, unless Job 1 is quite late.

Thanks to all. Based on all of the info we have garnered both from folks on Trainorders and else where we have decided to develop a plan B and head up to central PA and the southern tier of NY.
