Eastern Railroad Discussion > Escanaba and Lake Superior Baldwin RS12 #300 On Shippers SpecialDate: 08/22/19 07:43 Escanaba and Lake Superior Baldwin RS12 #300 On Shippers Special Author: Ohiorailfan I've said for the last 2 years that if I ever find out when Escanaba and Lake Superior runs their Shipper Special that I will go. Well on Monday night around 7pm Matt sent me info on this move and then I quickly learned more in the next couple hours. So I left at 10pm on Monday. Picked up a friend in Chiago and headed up to Pembine, WI. The original plan was for the train to head to Green Bay and back, but due to the owner not wanting to run that section in daylight the train headed north instead to Mass City, MI. The train was powered by ELS GP38-2 #400 and Baldwin RS12 #300. The 300 looks as if it is brand new as the unit is only pulled out once a year for special runs like this. Enjoy!
The GP38-2 was built as a Penn Central unit and the Baldwin was built as SAL in 1953 Some of the locations I am not sure on as we were in the woods on a few Date: 08/22/19 07:44 Re: Escanaba and Lake Superior Baldwin RS12 #300 On Shippers Spec Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 08/22/19 07:47 Re: Escanaba and Lake Superior Baldwin RS12 #300 On Shippers Spec Author: Ohiorailfan Date: 08/22/19 07:48 Re: Escanaba and Lake Superior Baldwin RS12 #300 On Shippers Spec Author: Ohiorailfan Coming into Mass City they ran around the train and the Baldwin is now on the lead for the trip back south

to live in Wells, wonder if they moved it out of there (home of the Sharks)? Out Date: 08/22/19 09:56 Re: Escanaba and Lake Superior Baldwin RS12 #300 On Shippers Spec Author: robj Great weather, very nice shots! Bob

Bob Date: 08/22/19 14:00 Re: Escanaba and Lake Superior Baldwin RS12 #300 On Shippers Spec Author: perklocal Great post ! Glad to see that they are still caring for this spotless RS-12. Amazing how some things never seem to change and some things change quicker than the weather. I shot these same 2 units doing this almost 31 years ago on 9/5/88. First shot a North Escanaba, second coming under the then CNW bridge at Escanaba and final shot of the pair heading for the barn in Wells.

Fans are explicitly unwanted after a burglary in the 80s that stole baldwin maintenance manuals, parts, etc.
