Rail traffic around Nashville & Mt Vernon, Illinois
Author: Fred

Will be down that way next month and was curious on train volume. Is the ex L&N main still utilized and also the former MP line. Any "good"spots to check out?
Thanks for any & all "tips" and info.

In Nashville the highest volume of traffic is at Amqui in North Nashville just off I-65. The main from Chicago and the main from Louisville come together at Amqui. Best location is Williams Ave crossing just a short distance south of Amqui. Other good spots to park in the area are gone due to construction and shopping center changes. Downtown Nashville at Union Station is good but less trains than Amqui.

Thanks for that info. Is that now UP or CSX you're referring to?
Thanks Again

In Nashville all track is CSX, with a short line running east from downtown.

Fred,
Mt Vernon IL will mostly be UP and NS mainline action. The Evansville Western also runs east / west on the old L&N line as far as Okawville, IL about 45 in west of Mt Vernon. As for EVWR thru Mt Vernon, IL its basically just a local 3 days a week and an occasional grain train. For buiser EVWR action you need to go east a bit to get along the line near the coal mines they serve.
