Take a Ride on the Reading
Author: RDG630

Saturday evening September 14th the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad operated excursions betweeen Lansdale and Souderton, Pa on the former Reading Coimpany Bethlehem Branch. Power was Pennsylvania Northeastern SD40-2W former CN #5342 and on the south the only GE C39-8 #8212 operating unit of that model in the US.
First image leaving Lansdale with much to see in the photo. To the left is the new apartment complex on what was the Madison Parking lot, the train is passing under the new pedestrian overpass and in the distance on the right is the CSX power that brought interchage cars to Lansdale over night.
Second photo crossing Orvilla Road north of Lansdale passing a crossing light which is in a horizontal position but still flashing
Third photo the train is crossing Township Line Road south of Souderton.

Next is the 8212 trailing at the same location
Next images at Souderton showing the recently refurbished passenger station which is now a restaurant called the Northbound (even though it is on the southbound track).
Last photo shows the train leaving passing the former freight station  - now unoccupied.

Real nice series of photos.  Glad the C39-8 is still in use.  I remember seeing that engine pulling the NH&I Fall Foliage trains a few years ago.  Hopefully, the trains were well attended so these excursions can continue to happen.

Very nice. Is 8212 operating any other weekend excursions anytime soon?
