John Date: 10/13/19 04:09 Re: Don't stand on the tracks Author: gbmott The police are there — I’d be really interested in knowing whether the people are being admonished (or worse) or if they are being abetted by the police offering “protection” while what appears to be a wedding party is photographed.

Prom’s generally take place in the spring. Posted from iPhone Date: 10/13/19 12:08 Re: Don't stand on the tracks Author: gp60 ALCO630 Wrote: Me Included

------------------------------------------------------- > Omg, none of us have ever stood on a railroad > track, have we? Plenty of idiots have been struck while standing, laying or running on railroad tracks. I bet many of those thought there was no problem with doing it before then... I recall seeing a young beautiful woman jogging accross Thomas Viaduct (while wearing earbuds and listening to music) on one of my visits there in the mid 2000s (perhaps 2004?) A NB train passed on the same track about 10 minutes later and I was thankful that train hadn't been 10 minutes earlier. Unfortunately a few weeks later I read an article about the death of a young female jogger on that viaduct... Railroaders are taught the dangers of standing too close to tracks and the appropriate safety measures to take when around active tracks. It is a shame the general public doesn't share the same concerns about their own safety. Date: 10/13/19 15:53 Re: Don't stand on the tracks Author: MEKoch Nor would they think of standing in the middle or any lane of an Interstate Highway!
Date: 10/13/19 16:06 Re: Don't stand on the tracks Author: Passfanatic It's not a good idea at all to do what those people are doing. I can understand that making railroad tracks a background for pictures might seem to amuse people but in general, it's a no no to do that. I don't think that any mainline railroads want people setting up photo shoots for themselves on the tracks. Maybe a tourist railroad agency wouldn't mind as long as there is written permission.

The museums would be more likely to work with you than an operating railroad. They would be glad to accept your admission fare and then suggest a place for the pictures. Besides that, you have other options that you don't have on an operating railroad. You could pose with a caboose or a classic locomotive.
John Date: 10/13/19 21:55 Re: Don't stand on the tracks Author: BaltoJoey I'm not approving of what they are doing. But, that
section of track where they are gathered. Is tangent for a good distance in both directions. A train would not catch anyone by surprise. Date: 10/13/19 23:19 Re: Don't stand on the tracks Author: SantaFeRuss P Wrote:

Aren't they supposed to be proponents of Operation Lifesaver?
