Eastern Railroad Discussion > September NS Alabama East End / West Georgia TrainsDate: 10/14/19 04:40 September NS Alabama East End / West Georgia Trains Author: NSSpike In an area just southeast of downtown Temple Georgia loggers cleared out several trees and it opened up a new photo location on the east / west NS mainline through this small west Georgia town at US 78 hi-way. From about 10AM til 2PM east bound trains are heading in a southeast direction that provides some good light in a once shaded area. In this post a couple of photos from this location are included.
#1. In mid September one of the two daily east bound manifest trains NS 154 (BIRMINGHAM, AL - LINWOOD, NC) seen here heading east through Douglasville Georgia. At 168 cars this one will have mid-train power applied. #2. At line 104 in the consist two DP units provide mid-train power. #3. Following NS 154 through Douglasville is a re-routed NS 264 (MEMPHIS, TN (BNSF QLACAUG) - ATLANTA, GA). As a rule this train comes south into NS Austell Whitaker Yard on the North Atlanta District mainline Via Chattanooga TN. This past week NS re-routed three of these JB Hunt trains east Via Birmingham East End District. NS had scheduled MOW track work between Huntsville and Stevenson Alabama this week that required the re-route of this important JB Hunt stack. ...more to follow... Photo's #5 & #6 are taken at the new location described above. #5. Off the UP to the KCS at Shreveport LA NS 226 (SHREVEPORT, LA(UP ZLCAI / KCS IZLCAI) - ATLANTA, GA)heads east on the Temple/Taylor siding. #6. Another east bound manifest NS 154 runs east on the Temple/Taylor siding. At just under 100 cars there would be no mid-train DP power on this train. ...more to follow... There are many that to this day insist that these two should run the C of G. Currently 186 Birmingham crews take the train through Atlanta down to East Point Georgia getting on the GA. Griffin District around CP Spring. Occasionally an East Bound crew may not be qualified to run that trackage as recently happened. The conductor was qualified but not the engineer so train went as south of Inman to Jones Ave. As for 187 it runs Macon to Atlanta north bound on the South Atlanta District.
