Visitng my daughter in Halethorpe who lives easily within hearing distance of MARC Some MARC trains give one long honk when passing the station, others none, apparently day or night. Why is that? Thanks for your help.

Not all MARC trains stop there (at least they used not to) so the through trains would blow the horn to keep people back on the platform since many walk to the edge expecting the train to be going slowly and stop.  Plus Amtrak comes through there at I believe 110mph, could be them too.
