Browns Yard Santa Train this year to Freehold, NJ?
Author: RAS

I'm hearing rumors that, after 20+ years, the Browns Yard Santa Train to Freehold, NJ, isn't going to run this year. Can anyone confirm? Seems Conrail wasn't able or willing to support things this year, but I'm not sure why. Any details would be appreciated.

Here's a link to photos of a prior year's run posted by OCtrainguy. My understanding is that they maintained the caboose primarily for use on this run every year.

Yes, Conrail Joint Assets, remnants of the larger Conrail system maintained after the split/merger into NS and CSX.

First, thank you for the link to my photos from last year's train.  It's been a long standing tradition that I've attended.  The

Sadly, I do believe last year was the sudden end to the long run of the train.  I found a Facebook post on the Freehold Borough (NJ) Police Department page with some information and the police were a big sponsor of the event as well:  https://www.facebook.com/Freeholdpolicedepartment/posts/2841851379166943

"Sadly, the 2018 Santa Train was the last of such a great tradition. The Freehold Borough Police Department, Freehold Borough PBA and Mayor & Council of Freehold would like to thank Conrail, as well as the employees and family members who volunteered their time year after year to put smiles on the faces of thousands of children."

Events on the Downtown Freehold and Jamesburg (NJ) Fire Department websites make no mention to the Browns Yard Santa Train.
